If you are on holiday in Cefalù and have your own or rented transport available, you cannot miss a visit to the Gole di Tiberio (Tiberius Gorge), a beautiful natural canyon located in the Madonie Park about 35 km from Cefalù. The Gorges can also be reached from Pollina or Cefalù railway station by using a return transfer service.
The Gole di Tiberio, a Unesco-recognised Geopark site, is located between the municipalities of San Mauro Castelverde and Castelbuono, in the Madonie Park. As well as being a pleasant place to spend a day in close contact with uncontaminated nature, this famous natural site also reserves interesting challenges for the more adventurous.
In fact, the Madonie Outdoor ASD association has been organising sporting activities since 2012 along the Tiberio Gorge route, such as rubber dinghy excursions, walks in the Pollina river and, for the more daring, rafting.
A unique opportunity to experience direct contact with the wild nature that populates the park and beyond; along the route there are many interesting things to observe, such as the fossils on the walls; “U miricu”, the narrowest and most mysterious part of the gorges; the brigands’ boulder; numerous bird nests and many fascinating plays of light.
Near the gorges, there is an equipped area called ‘La Rocca’ equipped with toilets, changing room, shower, bar, 8 barbecue places, 8 tables with a hundred or so seats and a children’s playground.
In addition, inside the area there are 17 stations with sports equipment and a nature trail that narrates the flora and fauna of the Madonie Park also in Braille, while the association members who guide tourists during the excursions speak several languages, including English, French, Spanish and German.
The natural wonders of the Sicilian territory are waiting for you!
