Cefalù: an open-air set

Cefalù undisputed beauty is well-known worldwide: Rich in history, natural beauty and breathtaking beaches, is one of the most beautiful and famous villages in Sicily. Every year, the charm of this Arab-Norman town attracts the curiosity of thousands of tourists from around the world. Many stories find in the Cefalù street and square their set, already at the dawn of great Italian cinema. In fact, its fame is so widespread that it has inspired great authors for their film sets since the early 1920s. Many films, commercials and documentaries have been shot in the streets of the Norman town. Amon the many, we would mention “Vacanze d’amore” where the names of protagonists like Lucia Bosè, Walter Chiari and Domenico Modugno appear.

In 1990 Cefalù was the perfect scenary for an international fame film, the masterpiece by Giuseppe Tonatore “Nuovo cinema Paradiso” which won the award for Best Foreign Film that year. Among the most recent apperience in 2023, in which Cefalù take part of the set for “I Leoni di Sicilia”, directed by Paolo Genovese, an Italian TV series inspired by a historical novel set in the Sicilian lands. After Palermo, Cefalù will be the next city to host the set, with filming extending throughout the month of November.
Notable Italian actors such as Miriam Leone, Michele Riondino, and Donatella Finocchiaro are among the cast.
