The Rocca, a 268 m high limestone cliff, forms the backdrop to the beautiful seaside village of Cefalù and stands just behind the famous cathedral.
The history of the Rock is linked to an ancient legend according to which Daphnis, son of the nymph Daphnis and the god Hermes, after swearing allegiance to a nymph and subsequently breaking his promise, was deprived of his sight. Daphnis decided to kill himself by throwing himself off the cliff, but the god Dionysus turned him into stone and managed to save him.
The climb is very strenuous but well worth it. Once at the top you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Norman town of Cefalù; a must for trekking and nature lovers.
From the top of the Rocca you can admire all that this beautiful town has to offer, from its characteristic alleyways to the walls that surround it, and you can even admire the crystal-clear sea bed.
The Rocca has a large area equipped for picnics and moments of relaxation, so if you can take snacks and drinks with you to be consumed once you get to the top, so that you can recover your energy and enjoy the breathtaking view that this place offers.
During the walk it is possible to visit: Diana’s temple, the structures of the small early-medieval settlement and the viewpoint with the iron cross overhanging the cathedral, the crenellated walls and, at the top, the ruins of the castle of Norman origin.
Access hours are from 9 am to 7 pm.
